L West & Son is a family run busines which was established at the end of the second world war in 1945. Now over fifty years later it is run from the workshops set within a centuries old barn which nestles in a fold of the South Downs in West Sussex where the family name has it's roots since well before the barn was first constructed.

Gilbert West, the current proprietor, contiues to run the business to the strict guidelines of value, quality, and craftmanship which were laid down by his father from the very outset.

The company is proud that their skills and experience have resulted in a reputation for excellence from basic building and joinery to the delicacies of fine cabinet making.

The workshop in the beautiful South Downs

It was a very different story when we first acquired the barn in the early 1980`s.

Work to rebuild the barns into usable workshops, show rooms and offices was quite extensive.

As you can see most of the original timber had to be replaced in the turning shop.

The new roof was constructed authentically to the original using new materials.
